Getting your Hyderabad home designed while you live abroad

Getting your Hyderabad home designed while you live abroad, La'espace design studio Hyderabad

A meaningful part of what we do at La'espace is design and deliver homes for families who live abroad. Between the US, UK, the Gulf and Singapore, a large fraction of new Hyderabad villas and apartments never see their eventual owners during construction. The interior gets built for someone who arrives to a finished home. Done well, they walk in and it already feels theirs. Done badly, it is a very expensive disappointment.

Why this way of working is now normal

Ten years ago, most NRI families flew home twice during their interior project, once to sign off design and once for handover. Today, an increasing share of them make the entire journey from empty shell to move-in ready without a single visit. Video walkthroughs, cloud-shared drawings, 3D models you can turn in your browser and honest project managers on the ground have collectively made this workable. Not easy, but workable, and often faster than doing it in person because decisions happen crisply on scheduled calls rather than drifting week to week.

How a remote project actually runs

The rhythm is straightforward once you see it. Everything happens on a shared schedule that you and the design team agree at kick-off, then hold to.

Weeks 1 to 3, understanding and layouts

We start with a video call about how your family lives, then map that against the floor plan of your Kokapet villa or Financial District apartment. Two rounds of layout drawings follow. Everything is shared over a cloud folder you can access on your phone, so a spouse in Dallas and a parent in Hyderabad can look at the same document at the same time.

Weeks 4 to 8, materials, 3D views and sign-off

This is where the shape of your home is decided. We show 3D renders of every room, ask you to walk them in a video call, and finalise material choices via a curated shortlist rather than the full catalogue. Fewer, better options move faster. Choosing three sofa fabrics is easier than choosing one from thirty. By the end of week 8, everything is signed off on paper.

Weeks 9 to 20, execution with weekly updates

Civil and joinery run on site in Hyderabad. Every week you receive a short video walkthrough from our project manager, five minutes of what happened, what is happening next, and any decisions we need from you. Small ones get resolved on WhatsApp, larger ones on a scheduled call. Change requests are batched to protect the schedule.

Weeks 21 to 22, handover and settling

The house is snagged, cleaned, styled and photographed before you arrive. When you land, you walk into a home that is already yours. We stay in touch through the first month for any small adjustments, which are almost always about lighting scenes and where furniture wants to sit after real use.

What NRI clients get wrong most often

Three patterns show up more often than others across the remote projects we deliver.

  • Trying to compare a full-service Hyderabad design and build quote to a contractor-only quote from a family member. They are different products at different prices.
  • Delaying decisions because 'we will decide when we visit next month'. That single delay usually costs two to three weeks of the project timeline.
  • Over-specifying imported materials that are difficult to service in India. Choose things that can be repaired locally if a hinge fails or a fabric tears.

Communication rhythm we recommend

For families in the US or Canada, we default to Saturday morning India time as the design review slot. That is Friday evening for the West Coast, still a reasonable Friday night for the East Coast. For Singapore and the Gulf, a weekday evening works well. For UK families, weekday India morning or a weekend slot both work. Whatever rhythm you pick, keep it consistent, one hour a week during design, thirty minutes a week during execution, cancellable but never open-ended.

Documentation you should demand

If your project runs remotely, insist on documentation that gives you continuity. It is normal, do not feel awkward asking.

  • A signed scope of work with room-by-room inclusions and exclusions
  • A materials board with brand and make of every finish, hardware and appliance
  • A weekly written update with two or three photos, in addition to the video walkthrough
  • A snag list and a documented resolution of every item before handover
  • A one-year warranty of joinery and hardware, in writing
The homes that go wrong for NRI families are almost never designed badly. They are documented badly.
La'espace design principle

If you are planning a Hyderabad home from abroad and want to talk through what a remote engagement would look like for you, our free online consultation runs on video and takes 30 minutes. Times work for the US, UK, Gulf and APAC. We will not ask you to sign anything on the call.

People also ask about nri guide

Can La'espace design my Hyderabad home if I live abroad and cannot visit?

Yes. A significant share of our projects are for NRI families in the US, UK, Gulf and Singapore. Design happens on video calls with shared drawings and 3D views. Execution is managed on the ground in Hyderabad with weekly video walkthroughs.

How long does an NRI turnkey project take from start to move-in?

Typically 20 to 22 weeks from signed brief to handover for a full 3BHK apartment or 4BHK villa. Villas and heavier customisation extend this. We commit to a documented timeline at signing and hold to it.

Do I need a family representative in Hyderabad during execution?

Not strictly required. Our project managers handle daily site presence, decisions and vendor coordination. A local family contact is helpful for occasional deliveries and access, but many projects run without one.

How do you handle payments for NRI clients?

Payments are structured as milestones tied to project stages, and can be made via NRE bank transfers, SWIFT, or Indian NEFT depending on your setup. We provide GST invoices and payment receipts against every stage.

What happens if we want to change something mid-project?

Small changes are absorbed inside the plan. Larger changes are quoted transparently, both in cost and timeline impact, and only proceed after you sign off. We never assume you want a change without confirming.
